28/11 Naomi Berrill presents her new album, Firenze sala Vanni

Naomi Berrill is an Irish cello player and singer, she’s is currently based in Florence where she works as a freelance musician.

After classical studies Naomi started a solo project for cello and voice and so far she has collaborated with cellist Giovanni Sollima, New York Ballet, Crash Ensemble, writer Stefano Benni and many dance and theatre groups such as Virgilio Sieni who is the current director of the Biennale Danza in Venice.

Naomi was born in 1981 in Galway on the west cost of Ireland. Her parents, who are both music teachers, taught her music from a young age. In 1997 she was awarded a scholarship to study cello at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. In 2000 Naomi moved to Glasgow, to study cello with Robert Irvine at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

She also studied electroacoustic composition, jazz piano and scottish folk cello at the RSAMD. In 2005 she made her debut as solo cellist with the Royal Scottish Academy Orchestra with three performances of Tchaikovsky’s Rococo variations for cello and Orchestra. After graduating, Naomi continued her studies in Italy with Cellists Enrico Bronzi (Trio di Parma) and Francesco Dillon (Prometeo Quartet). She has also taken masterclasses with Louise Hopkins, Johannes Goritzki, ValterDespalj and M. Rostropovich.

She has been cellist with the Indaco String Quartet, she is singer, guitarist and concertina player with the Celtic Folk group ‘The Clover Ensemble’ and she performs regularly with various Chamber Ensembles including Fontana Mix (Bologna) Musicamorfosi (Monza),and Alter Ego (Rome). In july 2009, she worked on a collaboration with NewYork City Ballet for cello, electronics and dancers, which had its premier at the Spoleto Festival
